Friday Night Lights star Aimee Teegarden has just been cast in Rings, the third installment of Paramount’s horror franchise. The first film in the series, The Ring—based on Ringu, the 1998 Japanese horror movie—starred Naomi Watts (Birdman) and told the story of Samara, the creator of a cursed video tape that kills its viewers after seven days of various horrors. This latest installment sees the return of Samara and her un-dead legacy.
The film began shooting in Atlanta this week with Spanish director F. Javier Gutiérrez and a script written by Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, TV’s Fringe), Jacob Aaron Estes, and David Loucka. Italian actress Matilda Lutz and English actor Alex Roe also star. Rings is slated for a November 13 release.
Since saying goodbye to her role as Coach’s daughter Julie Taylor on NBC’s Friday Night Lights, Teegarden has appeared in various teen flicks (Scream 4, Prom) as well as the short-lived CW sci-fi romance series Star-Crossed. Up ahead in 2015, she will be starring in the romantic comedy My Bakery in Brookyn and in A Change of Heart with Virginia Madsen (Sideways).
