The North American rights for the comedy Addicted to Fresno, which premiered at this year’s SXSW festival, have been acquired by Gravitas Media. The movie, now set for fall 2015 release, stars Natasha Lyonne and Judy Greer as two co-dependent sisters.
Greer and Lyonne play sisters, one a recovering sex addict and one a lesbian, living in Fresno and making their way by working as hotel maids. The plot centers around their efforts to cover up an accidental crime, for which they go to extreme lengths. The movie also stars Aubrey Plaza, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Ron Livingston, Jessica St. Clair, Malcolm Barrett, Allison Tolman, Kumail Nanjiani, and Clea Duvall.
It was directed by Jamie Babbit, who worked with Natasha Leonne on her debut 1999 movie, But I’m a Cheerleader. It was written by Karey Dornetto and produced by Andrea Sperling and Stephanie Meurer. Addicted to Fresno originally screened at SXSW under the title Fresno.
Natasha Lyonne, known for her role in Orange is the New Black, is currently working on several other movies, including Yoga Hosers and Adam’s Green Aladdin. Judy Greer was most recently seen in Tomorrowland and has roles in two upcoming, much-anticipated movies: Jurassic World and Ant-Man. She is also currently filming a voice role in The Good Dinosaur.
