Adam Sandler Tees Off Again As ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Begins Production For Netflix

Adam Sandler is set to reprise his role as the unlikely golf phenomenon in the highly anticipated sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. The movie, directed by Kyle Newacheck and scripted by Sandler alongside Tim Herlihy, has officially begun production for Netflix. The original film was released in 1996, and saw Sandler’s character, a failed hockey player, becoming a surprising golf star thanks to his drives.

Announcing the sequel’s production on social media, Sandler took to Instagram on his 58th birthday, sharing a photo from the set with the caption, “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.” The line echoes a memorable moment from the original film, where Sandler’s character exchanges similar words with his on-screen rival, Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald.

Christopher McDonald, who will reprise his role as Shooter McGavin, hinted earlier this year that a sequel was in development, which Netflix later confirmed in May. “Happy Gilmore is back! Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand new movie coming to Netflix,” the streaming platform announced.

Plot details remain unknown, but Sandler has revealed that actor Benny Safdie will be joining the cast along with NFL star Travis Kelce is set to make a cameo. Reflecting on the project, Sandler expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The idea that me and my buddy Tim Herlihy had and the more we talked about it and scene to scene worked on it, it built, and we feel very strong about the movie itself… It just kind of happened.”
