According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Sandler has officially been cast as the leading role in A24’s latest film created by the Safdie brothers, Josh and Benny. The upcoming film is going to be called Uncut Gems. The brothers both wrote the film together, with Ronald Bronstein creating the script too and receiving a writing credit as well. Although there isn’t much yet known about the movie’s plotline, the title has been helpful. Essentially, the movie will involve the diamond district in the Big Apple, hence the name “Uncut Gems.” Sandler is currently the only actor known to be cast in the upcoming film. However, it looks like he will benefit from having big-name creator Martin Scorsese as one of the film’s producers.
Sandler has been part of many successful projects in the past year including Noah Baumbach‘s The Meyerowitz Stories. Soon, he can be seen with Jennifer Aniston, a reunited collaborator for Sandler, who will play his wife as they get into accidental trouble in Europe in their yet-unmade movie Murder Mystery. He will also have an excellent scene partner in comedian Chris Rock in the upcoming hilarious new movie, The Week Of. Interestingly enough, these films all share a common theme: they are made for and by Netflix, who seem to be ideal partners for Sandler, also producing his movies The Do-Over and The Ridiculous Six on their platform.
We are excited to hear future news about this film.
