According to Deadline, Adam Sandler (Pixels) and Chris Rock (Top Five) are teaming up for a new Netflix comedy, The Week Of. The story will revolve around the week before a wedding between Sandler’s character’s daughter and Rock’s character’s son.
Robert Smigel, a frequent collaborator with Sandler since Saturday Night Live, will helm from his script which he co-wrote with Sandler. Sandler and Allen Covert will produce for Happy Madison. Barry Bernardi and Tim Herlihy will executive produce.
This will be the fourth of a four-film deal that Sandler has exclusively with Netflix. Netflix has said that the first three Sandler comedies have been big releases for them. The most recent, Sandy Wexler, launched last week. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said “Adam Sandler and Chris Rock are cornerstones of the Netflix comedy family, and we are over the moon about these two legends reuniting to give our members worldwide a healthy dose of the hilarity that they have been creating together for years. Similar in the romantic comedy tone of Sandler’s most recent film Sandy Wexler, this film will be the perfect vehicle for Sandler and Rock and their millions of fans around the world.”
The Week Of will start shooting this summer on Long Island and will premiere on Netflix globally in 2018.
