Sony Pictures recently acquired an untitled original film by Adam Robitel, which will be produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert through their production company Ghost House Pictures, according to Deadline. The film will be directed by Robitel himself and written by Gavin Heffernan. So far, the only information given about this film is that it’s a supernatural thriller, with details regarding its storyline, characters, and setting remain in the shadows. Romel Adam will supervise the project for Ghost House.
In early 2019, Robitel’s Escape Room accumulated a whopping $155 million off a budget worth approximately $9 million in production costs. Robitel will follow up the film with a sequel, which is scheduled for an August 14, 2020 release date.
Ghost House, given the production company’s name, has helped engineer of horror blockbusters for Sony which include Don’t Breathe, The Grudge and its upcoming Nicolas Pesce-helmed reboot and the 2013 remake of Evil Dead, which was itself a remake of Raimi’s 1981 horror classic starring Bruce Campbell.
Aside from the Escape Room, Robitel has a small catalog of films dating back to 2014. His directorial debut was The Taking of Deborah Logan, which starred Jill Larson and Anne Ramsay. Subsequent films include Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Insidious: The Last Key – both which marked his transition into mainstream film. Robitel also had a brief acting career, making his feature debut in 2000‘s X-Men.
