Adam Driver and Rooney Mara To Star in ‘Annette’

Announced on Thursday, Adam Driver and Rooney Mara have been cast in the film Annette, a musical drama about two lovers. It will be the English language debut of French director Leos Carax.

Following this year’s early success of the artful musical La La Land, it is not a surprise that Annette has become one of the most talked about projects this week at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, CA. The film will start shooting in late spring, and is expected to film for four months in multiple international locations. Annette will be powered by the music of 1970s band the ‘Sparks’, who are known for frequently changing musical styles, staying at the forefront of music and maintaining a strong fan base to this day. The Sparks will write original songs for the film.

Leos Carax is known for smaller budget films like Boy Meets Girl (1984), Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (1991), and Holy Motors (2012). With a estimated 15.5 million dollar budget, Annette will be his most ambitious film to date.

Driver has gained much recognition as the villainous Kylo Ren in Star Wars the Force Awakens, while Mara has gained critical acclaim for her lead role in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as well as her supporting role in Carol last year. Driver can be seen this year in Paterson and Martin Scorsese’s Silence. Mara can be seen in Lion later this month.

No release date has been set yet.
