Gwyneth Paltrow, who played Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be leaving her role after the much anticipated Avengers: Endgame, according to an interview with Variety. Potts was Iron Man’s secretary turned girlfriend and Stark Industries CEO who made appearances in each Iron Man and Avengers film since 2008.
Paltrow shared that she was initially convinced to take on the role by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who she is friends with. She states her reason for stepping down as being “a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point.” She enjoyed seeing how the Iron Man franchise grew in importance to fans and felt honored to be a part of that experience.
The actress is now spending her time managing her lifestyle company Goop, which was founded in 2008.
In an interview for Variety for their pre-Oscars Issue, Paltrow commented on the current trends of the film industry. “I think that the movies and the business around them have changed so much in the last 20 years,” Paltrow said. “I don’t think any of the movies I’m known for would get made today.” Because of the dynamic environment of Hollywood, she said that she would not be surprised if a superhero movie received the award for Best Picture at this year’s Oscars.
