The two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo will be starring in the new Netflix sci-fi film Blink Speed. She will be producing the film alongside Matt Jackson, the producer behind The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Molly’s Game.
The movie is based on a short story by Eric Brown, who will also be scripting the film adaptation. Erivo will be playing a young woman plagued with a strange savant ability after a near-death experience. Her newly adopted skill will allow her to unlock the mysteries behind her fractured memory.
While winning the Tony Award for her performance in The Color Purple has made Erivo a theater sensation, the actress has also outdone herself on the big screen. Nominated for an Oscar in 2019 for the best female lead in Harriet, her career does not seem to have peaked at all. She was also nominated for an Emmy for playing the iconic Aretha Franklin in Genius; Erivo is just getting started.
Erivo will next be seen in Disney’s remake Pinocchio alongside Tom Hanks and is currently in production on Luther with Idris Elba for Netflix. Following that, the actress and singer will begin production this summer on Jon Wu’s upcoming film adaption of the hit Broadway musical Wicked as Elphaba.
There has not been an announcement of an official release date for Blink Speed.
