Comscore has released the numbers for the June 2023 box office in the UK and Ireland. The month pulled in £90.3 million, or $114.8 million. The gross is 28% lower than that of June last year. The numbers also show that the year-to-date is 7% behind where it was this time last year.
The weather doesn’t help things much, either, Variety reports. The U.K. Met Office revealed that, since the start of the records, this June is the hottest there’s been for the area, leading movie-goers to choose time outside over seeing a movie.
The height of the box office for the month was Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, which pulled in £26.7 million. It surpassed the total brought in by its predecessor, Into The Spider-Verse, which had £10.8 million. On top of being the highest of June, it is also the third highest release of the year.
Coming in at second place is Disney’s new imagining of The Little Mermaid, with £25.4 million. Currently, it’s on track to top Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, which ended its run at £25.8 million.
Third place goes to the return of Harrison Ford as archeologist Indiana Jones, in Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny. The film pulled in £10.1 million, but had the widest release to date, reaching 743 theaters.
Speeding into fourth place is The Flash, with £8.3 million, while Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts takes fifth, at a total of £7.4 million.
Going into July, two of the most anticipated releases are Barbie and Oppenheimer, both opening on July 21st. The month will end with Talk To Me, on July 28th.
