The 93rd Academy Awards are making some changes this year due in large part to the ongoing pandemic. The Awards Ceremony will take place at the Dolby theater, the originally planned venue, as well as the Los Angeles railway hub Union Station.
“In this unique year that has asked so much of so many,” said the Academy in a statement. “The Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate.”
The announcement was made earlier this morning before the Oscar nominations were revealed via Livestream by Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The Academy may also include other remote locations in the show.
Union station has appeared in a variety of films since it was built in 1939, including movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Blade Runner and Pearl Harbor. The Dolby Theater has been the primary location for the Oscars since 2002. This also isn’t the first time the ceremony is taking place in multiple locations. The Oscars were held as a bicoastal event for several years in the 1950s.
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh and Stacey Sher are producing the telecast alongside Grammy’s producer Jesse Collins. A host has still not been announced for this year’s show.
