Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter is the newest addition to the Sony Spider-Man Universe. Taylor-Johnson spoke about whether his character should fight Spider-Man in a future movie.
Kraven the Hunter launches into theaters next week, but it is still unconfirmed whether Kraven will get to hunt Spider-Man as he does in the comics. Venom has just been taken out of their universe with Venom: The Last Dance, so there are not many villains left in the universe. Introducing Spider-Man to the Sony villains could bridge the gap Sony has been experiencing that will expand their universe.
Taylor-Johnson recently did an interview with Screen Rant‘s Liam Crowley about the possibility of going up against Spider-Man. He said, “I mean, it’s very much the question to everyone else really, right? Because I think what we’ve done, what we’ve set up in this story is a really rich character that definitely has the legs to go on and do more damage. I think he should go toe-to-toe with some superheroes that we know. One of my favorite stories is Kraven’s Last Hunt. It was one of the source materials I used to go back from. He’s got some dark demons there and we are basically showing the birth of that and how he becomes a villain that we then come to know. So really come see this movie, man. Come see this movie. I promise you it won’t disappoint. It’s got all the beats that you want and more. I think it could be an audience’s sort of villain favorite, definitely go toe-to-toe with some other people down the line, man.”
Taylor-Johnson’s comments depict Kraven as some sort of anti-hero. He describes the movie as an origin story where audiences will come to know Kraven and understand why he chose the path he did. With the mention of Kraven’s Last Hunt, Sony would need to have a Spider-Man to make the story possible since Kraven briefly becomes Spider-Man.
Taylor-Johnson seems very excited about this project and the potential Kraven has. Kraven the Hunter releases in cinemas this Dec. 13.
