HBO Max’s Lanterns series is set to debut on the platform later this year, marking the debut of John Stewart in James Gunn’s DCU, who will be played by Aaron Pierre.  He will appear alongside David Corenswet’s Superman in Man of Tomorrow, who flew into movie theaters this past Summer in the inaugural film in James Gunn’s DCU.

The upcoming Lanterns series is set to introduce Pierre’s Stewart as an underling to the older Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who will be played by Kyle Chandler.  If you saw Gunn’s Superman, you will know that we were introduced to Green Lantern Guy Gardner, who was played by Nathan Fillion, and he is also set to appear in the series.  It is currently unknown if Gardner will appear in Man of Tomorrow.  The film has been described by Gunn as not being a direct sequel to Superman.  Fans of that film can still expect plenty of returning faces, including: Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Jimmy Olson (Skyler Gisondo).

Gunn has described Man of Tomorrow, “as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.”  The film will mark the first time Superman foe Brainiac is seen on the big screen, seemingly forcing Superman to team up with Lex Luthor in some capacity.  Brainiac will be played by Lars Eidinger.  It is unknown the size of the role John Stewart will play in the upcoming film.

Man of Tomorrow will be written and directed by James Gunn and is set to fly into theaters on July 9, 2027.  Stay with us at MXDWN as the film continues to take shape.
