Noses up, film fans.
For one night only, you will be able to immerse your senses in A24’s upcoming religious horror film Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East. The film studio, which tends to focus on indie and innovative boundary-pushing stories, is partnering with Alamo Drafthouse theaters across the nation and Joya Studios to provide an olfactory experience on October 30th, 2024, just in time for Halloween.
Joya Studios is known for its cutting-edge candles and scents and has partnered with A24 before, crafting signature candles modeled after classic film genres. Special aromas able to be spotted throughout the film’s runtime include a signature blueberry pie scent, built to go hand-in-hand with a pivotal scene in the movie. Audiences will also be given scratch-and-sniff cards to enhance their experience further. Joya Studios will operate with a cold-air diffusion method that allows the scents to be released into the air without the use of heat or chemicals.
Heretic is directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and follows two young female missionaries (Thatcher, East) who, on their mission, enter the home of the dangerous and meticulous Mr. Reed (Grant) unbeknownst to them the untold horror he’s prepared for them, pushing them to test their faith.
Heretic’s wide theatrical release is slated for November 8th, 2024.
