Jesse Eisenberg’s next directorial feature, the follow-up to the critical acclaim that was 2024’s A Real Pain, has been greenlit at A24.
The untitled musical comedy has begun production with Eisenberg set to collaborate with his A Real Pain production group, which includes Fruit Tree’s Emma Stone, Ali Herting, and Dave McCary, along with Top Studios, who will serve as executive producers. This also is not Eisenberg’s first time working with A24, as he worked with them on his directorial debut, 2022’s When You Finish Saving The World.
The cast is made up of Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, Maulik Pancholy, Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, and Bernadette Peters. The feature will center around “a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a community theater musical production, going to extremes as she loses herself in the role.” It is reported that Eisenberg produced and wrote the original music and lyrics for the film along with La La Land’s Steven Gizicki and In The Heights’ Bill Sherman.
There is no release date as of yet, but with filming already in process, it should not be long before an announcement of that kind is made.
