Watch Adam Sandler, Ansel Elgort, and Jennifer Garner communicate without words in the trailer for the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival entry Men, Women & Children, set to be released by Paramount later this year.
Jason Reitman directed the picture, which fits the mold of his other films with grounded-in-reality concepts such as Up in the Air and Juno. Sandler reconnects with his serious side in the film, which has been seen before on rare occasion in films like Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish. Elgort has quickly become a household name with his involvement in popular films like The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, and Carrie. He will be seen again for the sequel Insurgent releasing next year. Garner will be seen this October in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Emma Thompson, who also stars, will be seen in next year’s A Walk in the Woods. Also appearing in the film are Kaitlyn Dever (J. Edgar), Rosemarie DeWitt (The Odd Life of Timothy Green), and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad).
The silent trailer speaks loudly in terms of drama. Each actor conveys internal conflicts with very apparent emotions, which are so difficult to interpret in the realm of texting. The film tackles the idea that sexuality and the means of how it is understood and attained has changed as technology has caused communication to become impersonal and real interaction to dissolve. This ensemble cast is sure to bring this thought-provoking commentary to life in an exciting way.
