Jared Hess, director of A Minecraft Movie, has recently explained that an easter egg in the film is a reference to an iconic YouTuber. Hess elaborated by saying that the pig wearing a golden crown featured in A Minecraft Movie is a tribute to the late YouTuber Technoblade, who had the same skin in the Minecraft video game. This began when star Sebastian Hansen told Hess about Technoblade’s tragic battle with cancer. Hess opened up by saying,

One of my favorite Easter eggs came from Sebastian, who plays Henry. When we were prepping the film, he was like, “Look, there’s this amazing Minecraft player named Technoblade who passed away, and I would love to be able to honor him somehow in the film.” We were like, “Oh my goodness, of course.” So we spoke with our design team, and there’s a really, really sweet, special nod to Technoblade in the film that is really cool.

Jack Black. who plays the iconic Steve, labels the pig wearing the crown as a legend in tribute to his passing. What is truly impressive about A Minecraft Movie is not only that it is honoring Minecraft’s over fifteen-year-long history, but it also pays many homages to parts outside of the game itself. This easter egg according to Hess, cements Technoblade’s place in the game’s history as well.
