A highly successful horror franchise is about to get a revival. A brand-new entry in the Paranormal Activity series has officially locked in a 2027 release date.
The Paranormal Activity franchise has been a horror mainstay for cinemas since its debut in 2007. The original film followed a young couple who had just moved into a new home when they began experiencing odd occurrences in the middle of the night. Upon setting up cameras to get to the cause, what they uncover is much more sinister and far more disturbing than they could have ever imagined.
The striking horror of the first film, no doubt amplified by its found footage style, managed to take audiences by storm. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the first film, made on a very low budget, was able to become one of the most profitable movies in cinema history. Off a $15,000 budget, the film made just under $200 million, going on to spawn six more installments in the franchise.
Although it’s releasing next year, there’s very little known about the story of the upcoming entry. In fact, it doesn’t even have a proper title just yet. Hollywood Reporter was able to note, however, that James Wan will be attached as a producer. Although this is the first time Wan will be connected to Paranormal Activity, he’s more than made a splash when it comes to horror, between films like Insidious, The Conjuring, and Saw.
The next Paranormal Activity will be released on May 21st, 2027.
