“A Christmas Story’ Sequel is in the Works with Peter Billingsly Returning as Ralphie

On Thursday, a source told Deadline that Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have just closed a deal for Peter Billingsley to star in a new Christmas Story sequel. The film will be called A Christmas Story Christmas and will premiere on HBO Max.

Nick Schenk (Cry Macho, The Mule) will serve as screenwriter and executive producer. Billingsley will also produce alongside his Wild West Picture Show partner Vince Vaughn. Clay Kaytis (The Christmas Chronicles, The Angry Birds Movie) is set to direct. Production will begin at the end of February.

The film will follow an adult Ralphie during Christmas in the 1970s. He returns to his house on Cleveland street to give his kids a Christmas like the ones he remembered so well from his childhood. Ralphie will connect with old childhood friends as well as deal with the loss of The Old Man.

Since the original film Billingsley has become quite a successful director in his own right, helming comedy films like Couples Retreat, which stars his friend Vince Vaughn. He was also the producer for the broadway adaptation of A Christmas Story, which went on to receive three Tony nominations, including Best Musical. As producers, Billingsley and Vaughn have collaborated on Four Christmases, The Break-Up, and F Is For Family.
