Among several other releases this weekend, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has made its debut in theaters. Although the movie did manage to garner a fair amount of anticipation, it seems that it can’t quite live up to the expectations.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey follows two strangers who meet at the wedding of a mutual friend. After sparking a new friendship, the two begin to revisit their respective pasts and learn who they truly are as people, thanks to each other.
Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell lead the film, alongside Jennifer Grant, Hamish Linklater and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
As of this writing, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey sits at just a 37% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 58% audience score. The critic score is averaged from 130 reviews. This score marks a new low record for the film’s director, Kogonada.
With a wide collection of short films, both of Kogonada’s other directorial efforts have proved more fruitful in terms of critical reception. MovieWeb notes that out of his other films, 2017’s Columbus has a 96%, and After Yang has an 89%, both of which are a stark contrast to what A Big Bold Beautiful Journey currently sits at.
