Quentin Tarantino’s films Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2 are approaching their 20th anniversary this year. Lionsgate wants to release a 4K remastered version to celebrate this anniversary. Kill Bill follows Uma Thurman, also known as the Bride, taking vengeance on the group of assassins that have wronged her. After their failed assassination of the Bride, she comes out of her four-year coma ready to kill off each assassin one by one. This would finish her plan to kill her former boyfriend and boss, Bill.
The Kill Bill Volume Series was sold initially and released by Miramax Films. After the Weinstein Company had gone bankrupt from the founder, Harvey Weinstein’s downfall, Miramax Films sold the rights to Kill Bill along with many other films from Tarantino. Lionsgate has now acquired the rights to Kill Bill and many other Tarantino films and hopes to capitalize off their investment. With the 20th anniversary of Kill Bill coming up, Lionsgate found their opportunity to benefit from it. Lionsgate added Kill Bill: Volumes 1 and 2 and Jackie Brown to their library, comprising eight Tarantino movies.
In discussion with Joe Rogan on Rogan’s podcast, Tarantino said, “I think it’s just revisiting the characters, 20 years later, just imagining the Bride and her daughter B.B. having 20 years of peace. And then that peace is shattered. The Bride and B.B. are on the run. The idea of being able to cast Uma and her real-life daughter Maya would be f**king exciting.”
Currently, Tarantino is working on his alleged final movie, The Movie Critic, which will tell the story of a real-life critic who wrote reviews for pornography magazines. The film is based on Pauline Kael, who, unfortunately, died in his late thirties.
