28 Years Later gets its first poster, unveiling the ominous tagline for Danny Boyle’s sequel. Released in 2002, 28 Days Later follows Jim, played by Cillian Murphy, as he traverses post-apocalyptic London following the outbreak of the Rage Virus. The story continued with new characters in director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s 2007 sequel called 28 Weeks Later. Now, Boyle and original movie writer Alex Garland, and Murphy are set to reunite for a third film, with Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jodie Comer also included in the new cast.
Sony Pictures now shares the first poster for 28 Years Later, which features a red biological hazard symbol made up of skulls. The poster includes the tagline “Time Didn’t Heal Anything,” hinting at the state of the world following 28 Days Later. Despite Murphy being confirmed to reprise his role as Jim, Comer, Taylor-Johnson, and Fiennes are the only actor names included on the poster.
Though the poster does not provide an official first look at characters, the tagline is a dark tease of what will happen in the film. Things are bleak in both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, and the tagline suggests things will be just as bleak in this new film.
Murphy’s name not being included on the poster could also suggest his role may be minor. Murphy is confirmed to serve as an executive producer on the project, but details about his on-screen role have not been confirmed. Taylor-Johnson just recently revealed that 28 Years Later‘s real protagonist is actually a 13-year-old boy named Alfie. Additionally, the film will serve as the first installment of a new trilogy, with the second installment, reportedly titled 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple , directed by Nia DaCosta.
The release of the 28 Years Later poster could signal that an official trailer or teaser trailer is coming soon. The film’s release date is set for June 20, 2025.
