20th Century Studios lifted the curtain and gave a new look at one of their 2025 features. A new trailer was debuted for The Amateur, from director James Hawes.
The Amateur follows a CIA computer worker who decides to take action of his own when the organization won’t allow him to follow up on a terrorist attack that resulted in the death of his wife.
Rami Malek takes up top billing for the film. The rest of the cast includes names such as Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Julianne Nicholson.
Just last year, Malek appeared in the critically acclaimed and box office mega-hit Oppenheimer, which would go on to win Best Picture. Malek also had roles in films like No Time To Die, Night At The Museum, and Bohemian Rhapsody, in which he portrayed the late Freddie Mercury.
As mentioned, James Hawes is taking up directing the film. While he’s helmed features in the past, such as 2023’s One Life, many of the titles to his resume have included television specials, such as Black Mirror: Smithereens and Black Mirror: Hated In The Nation. He’s also directed several Doctor Who specials across his career.
Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli are writing the screenplay, with the basis of the film being the novel from Robert Littell. Malek joins as a producer, as well, with Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, and Joel B. Michaels.
The Amateur hits theaters April 11th, 2025. Check out the trailer below.
