The latest installment in the Evil Dead franchise, titled Evil Dead Burn is set to release in theaters next month. A separate film Evil Dead Wrath, which has a April 2028 release date, has just been announced to be a prequel to the 1981 original, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell as horror’s most iconic final boy Ash Williams.
The news of Wrath‘s place in the timeline comes from franchise producer Robert Tapert, who spoke with Dread Central, stating: “This is yet another great departure. It predates everything. It takes place in 1972.”
The Evil Dead franchise follows multiple groups of victims as they come across the fated Necrinomicon, or “Book of the Dead”, a ancient relic that has the power to possess those it comes across with violent, demonic entities or “deadites”.
The latest installment to release in theaters was 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, directed by Lee Cronin. Evil Dead Burn, is directed by Sébastien Vaniček and was described by Tapert as a “story of a French woman in a bad marriage…probably [with] an abusive husband, whose family did not believe her – and so they were basically the in-laws from hell.” The film releases in theaters July 10, 2026.
Evil Dead Wrath, which will be directed by Francis Gallupi, will release in theaters on April 7, 2028.
