On Monday, December 9, the 2025 Golden Globe nominations event was held. While several critically acclaimed, award-winning movies were expected to be recognized, many did not receive the nominations that were expected.
In fact, some of the films receiving the highest accolades during the year received only one nomination. Films such as Babygirl, A Different Man, Nickel Boys, The Outrun, The Piano Lesson, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Sing Sing, Blitz, The Room Next Door, September 5, and Saturday Night. In a surprise turn of events, films like Hard Truths and Kneecap received no nominations at all.
Even films like Gladiator II were shortchanged. The film, which was a huge success, only landed two nods. It didn’t even receive a nomination for best drama film. However, its release date partner Wicked has received four nominations.
With all these critically acclaimed movies receiving so few nominations, it begs the question as to why they are all being ignored. Not just good films are being ignored, however. The critical and commercial bomb Joker: Folie à Deux was completely excluded from any nominations.
It will be exciting, however, to see which films do end up winning. With so many unexpected exclusions, the categories must be tight competition this year.
