It was recently revealed that the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. While this schedule comes as the expected among critics and film lovers, the SAG AWards will also be streamed live on Netflix for the first time, simultaneously alongside telecast networks at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST.
Last year, the 2023 SAG Awards were live-streamed to an audience of around 1.1 million viewers on Netflix’s official YouTube page due to last minute deal. The SAG Awards will most likely capture the attention of many Netflix subscribers (which totals around 232.5 million as of the first quarter in 2023) to watch the show. This deal not only has the potential to drastically raise viewership and popularity for the SAG Awards, but it could also incentivize viewers to keep or purchase a Netflix subscription.
Awards shows such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes only broadcast through traditional cable television networks or live TV streaming service memberships (i.e., YouTube TV, Hulu TV, FuboTV) which costs exceptionally more than a premium $20 Netflix subscription.
Hopefully, this trend of award shows live-streaming free for subscribers on streaming platforms continues as viewership increases over time.
