Sony and PlayStation Studios will debut a live adaptation film of the popular racing video game Gran Turismo at the fifth edition of the Micheaux Film Festival in Los Angeles. Gran Turismo will be directed by Neill Blomkamp and star David Harbour, Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom, and Djimon Hounsou.
Gran Turismo is coming-of-age sports drama where a teenager’s video game skills set him up to become a professional race car driver. The film is a biographical movie based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough. Mardenborough will be played by Madekwe (Midsommar), and Harbour (Stranger Things) will play the trainer, Jack Salter. The film will debut on July 16th, the festival’s closing night, and will be released globally on August 9th.
The festival, which celebrates diverse cinema, will be hosted at The Culver Theater and Regal Cinemas L.A. Live. The event will open with the premiere of My Home Unknown, directed by Yaz Canli. Other films to premiere are Scrap, Bad Things Happen in Philadelphia, A Pretty Good Movie, Good Egg, and Nowhere Men. The festival will also give Tanya Saracho (Vida) a spotlight session to touch on current industrial actions in Hollywood.
