Weekly Trailer Roundup – 9/8/14 thru 9/14/14

Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…

These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.

Fall is right around the corner and we all know that means week after week of serious films that will be battling it out for awards consideration. Trailers for a lot of those films have already hit the internet, and this week’s entries can be found below – scroll down to check out trailers for Tommy Lee Jones’ new western The Homesman, the Brad Pitt WWII tank movie Fury, and celebrated Danish director Susanne Bier’s new drama Serena, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. But we’re not putting a spotlight on those films this week. No, this week is about a different type of movie. Some compare it to comfort food. The type of movie you know isn’t great, but is fantastically entertaining nonetheless. And sometimes, that’s all you want a movie to be. So without further ado, here are this week’s guilty pleasures:

 #5 – Extraterrestrial

“That’s definitely not an airplane!” Ridiculous. Thankfully this horror movie masquerading as science fiction looks like it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Also, it’s written and directed by two men who call themselves The Vicious Brothers. And it has Michael Ironside in it. What more do you want, people?

#4 – The Boy Next Door

“It got pretty wet here.” Yup.

#3 – One Chance

This trailer doesn’t just make you feel like you’ve seen the entire movie, it makes you feel like you could write the whole thing yourself. Still, these inspirational underdog stories do scratch a certain itch, and this one looks particularly sweet. That’s British comedian James Corden in the lead role, who was recently tapped to replace Craig Ferguson as host of The Late Late Show.

#2 – You’re Not You

Apparently this isn’t actually a remake of the delightful 2011 French movie The Intouchables. Just a close approximation.

#1 – John Wick

They didn’t just kill his dog. They killed the dog HIS DEAD WIFE GAVE TO HIM BEFORE SHE DIED! Get ’em, Keanu, err John!
