Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…
These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.
Hey, so the Sundance Film Festival is a thing that’s happening right now. Yep, Sundance isn’t just a plot from the second season of Entourage. Somewhere in the magical land of Utah, disparate films make their debut and either go on to receive Oscar nominations or are quickly forgotten by all but the filmmiest of film critics. So, this week we honor trailers for films showing at Sundance 2015; one day to be elevated to Oscar greatness or lost to film history classes.
#5 – Knock Knock
Sure it’s starring professional living wooden plank Keanu Reeves and it’s from Eli Roth, whose scripts read like they were scribbled by a horny frat boy after a particularly bad bender, but it does have….uh….threesomes?
#4 – Racing Extinction
Could this be an environmental documentary that actually makes anyone do anything? Well, making it look like the next Fast & Furious movie is a good place to start.
#3 – It Follows
Sure plenty of horror films use loss of sexual innocence as subtext, but surprisingly few (including It Follows) use it as a plot point.
#2 – Dope
Sporting a cast that includes Zoe Kravitz and Forest Whitaker (his company is producing it), this looks like one of those early 90’s House Party movies if it was made by John Singleton.
#1 – The Tribe
Shot entirely in sign language with no subtitles? Widespread critical acclaim? This sounds just like one of those movies everyone tells you about, yet you can’t find a single person who’s actually seen it.
