Cameron Crowe’s newest project (formerly called Deep Tiki but is currently untitled), which is being distributed by Sony Entertainment through their Columbia Pictures banner along with Regency Enterprises, has now been set for a Christmas Day 2014 release. Produced with the help of Scott Rudin (The Social Network), the pic features the on-camera talents of Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray, John Krasinski, Danny McBride and Alec Baldwin in a tropically-set romantic comedy.
Crowe, the 57 year-old American film director, producer and screenwriter who before moving to the film industry was also a contributing editor at Rolling Stone magazine, broke into Hollywood with his debut screenplay Fast Times At Ridgemont High. He’s gone on to direct a number of critically lauded films, including Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire. His current project first surfaced in 2008 with Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon attached to star but disappeared until last year when the current cast signed on. The project began filming in Hawaii last September.
The movie follows the story of Brian Gilcrest (Cooper), a defense contractor who falls for Allison Ng (Stone), an Air Force Pilot after he is assigned by his employers to oversee the weapons satellite launch in Hawaii. Predictably, things won’t go entirely as planned as Brian and his thorny personality are sent on a public relations mission to pacify a council of Hawaiian natives regarding the launch.
With the date of the project recently released, hopefully we’ll get a final title soon as well.
