Sam Hargrave, the director behind the hit Netflix action film Extraction, is now set to direct Jake Gyllenhaal in the Afghan War film, Combat School. The film is based on the true story of the late Medal of Honor recipient, John Chapman.
Chapman took a heroic one-man stand during the Afghan war and sacrificed his own life to save the lives of twenty-three of his fellow troops. The story was adapted into a New York Times bestselling novel by Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz, titled Alone at Dawn.
Gyllenhaal will executive produce and star as Chapman. Michael Russell Gunn will adapt the screenplay based on the novel, and MGM is currently in talks to acquire the package.
Hargrave has a long-standing history of working on action films, doing some of the stunt-work on some of the biggest movies of the last decade, including Avengers: Endgame, Atomic Blonde and Captain America: Civil War. His last film, Extraction, which starred Chris Hemsworth, is getting a sequel, but it’s unclear if Hargrave will be attached to the project.
It’s unclear when we’ll see more about Combat School, but considering the massive success of Extraction, Hargrave’s next film is something to be on the look-out for.
