Christina Ricci is set to star in a supernatural thriller entitled Monstrous. The film is directed by Chris Sivertson and written by Carol Chrest. The film revolves around a woman and her 7-year-old son fleeing from her abusive ex-husband. However, after fleeing, they find a more terrifying monster.
One of the film’s producers, Clay Epstein said, “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Screen Media on Monstrous, an exciting, commercially viable feature film, with a fresh and current take on one of the most popular genres in the world.” The film is sure to have a deeper meaning behind the idea of being “monstrous.” There is obviously a physically grotesque monster, but there is also the deep-seated evil in some of humanity.
Epstein concludes by saying, “Christina Ricci’s unmatched talent with an adept group of filmmakers and a spine-tingling script is a recipe for success that that will please audiences everywhere”
Ricci was one of the biggest actor’s in the 90’s and early 2000’s, while she is not as big of a name as she was in the past, she has still consistently been working the past decades, and clearly still has star-power and charisma.
The film began production in December in Los Angeles, and can be expected later this year.
It will be certainly interesting if this film gets more traction than most smaller thrillers. It is clear that social thrillers are in with the success of films like Jordan Peele’s Us and Get Out, but there is no guarantee that the script for Monstrous is as good as the latter.
Monstrous can be expected at some point in 2021.
