Legendary Entertainment has picked up the rights to Devolution, a new book by World War Z author Max Brooks, according to Hollywood Reporter. Devolution centers around the bigfoot legend and is Brooks’s own take on the classic tale. The story is told as both a journal and a scientific exploration among the main characters.
The story is set in a very environmentally conscious community that has been ravaged by a volcanic eruption from the nearby Mt. Rainier. After the volcanic eruption, the town becomes ravaged by bigfoot. The beast wreaks havoc and terror on the town as the citizens try and learn to survive and protect those they love.
The story is told by Kate Holland, a resident of the town who is looking to save her community and her family. The book is described as “part survival narrative, part bloody horror tale, part scientific journey into the boundaries between truth and fiction.”
The novel is fresh onto shelves with a release date of June 16 of this year, so Legendary Entertainment was quick to nab the rights to the project. With Legendary gaining notoriety for its visually stunning monster flicks including Godzilla: King of Monsters, Pacific Rim, and Kong: Skull Island, this film will fit nicely in their creature feature lineup.
