Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook is the latest Sundance film to be picked up for distribution. IFC Midnight has continued its tradition of picking up strong festival horror films and acquired the rights to distribute the film in the U.S. and Latin America.IFC Midnight has had success distributing festival horror films, usually releasing the films both for limited theatrical runs and on demand. In the past few years, the company has picked up the rights to Haunter from South By South West, Contracted from the Chicago International Film Festival, and The Pact from Sundance.
Director Jennifer Kent’s breakthrough feature, The Babadook stars Essie Davis as Amelia, a widow haunted by her husband’s death, who must cope with her son’s growing fear of a monster he believes is stalking their house. The trailer below showcases the film’s dark psychological landscape and looks like it will feel right at home with IFC Midnight’s bevy of quality festival horrors.
