Following her stardom in the X-Men series, Alexandra Shipp is now set to star across from Andrew Garfield in the upcoming Netflix feature entitled tick, tick…BOOM! The film will serve as the directorial debut of Broadway sensation Lin-Manuel Miranda, according to Deadline.
The Shipp acquisition also includes Vanessa Hudgens of The Princess Switch and Rent: Live, as well as Tony nominee Robin de Jesus of The Boys In the Band. This Netflix feature will be based on the autobiographical off-Broadway musical compiled by the recently departed Jonathan Larson. The musical originally derived from Steven Levenson’s catalog is a 1990 set story which follows a theater composer named Jon, who serves at a restaurant in New York City while writing his own musical entitled Superbia. Through this writing process, he hopes to catch the huge career break he’s been seeking while shaking pressure from his girlfriend Susan ,who has grown cumbersome of being cast aside for his dreams. After his friend Michael quits his job in the arts and lands an advertising position, Jon becomes consumed with anxiety and begins questioning his future.
The Miranda banner will be in charge of producing the film consisting of Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Julie Oh of Imagine Entertainment. Julie Larson, sister of Rent creator Jonathan will act as an executive producer on the project.
