Russell Crowe is hopping aboard a new project, as the Oscar winner is slated to star in an upcoming untiled supernatural thriller from Miramax, directed by newcomers Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin according to Deadline. They are also set to write the film’s script.
Crowe will portray a struggling actor who quickly unravels while filming a horror film. Initially shrugged off, the actor’s daughter ponders as to whether he is falling into the grasp of a previous addiction which he developed unusual habits, or if there a supernatural force is causing him to act out.
The film will serve as the first project under a recently constructed deal with Miramax and producer Kevin Williamson. The deal was inked early last year as a way to leverage and intensify Miramax’s genre film content. Williamson, who had a hand in the Scream franchise, The Vampire Diaries and The Following, will produce this film through his flagship Outerbanks banner alongside Ben Fast of Head of Production. A supervisor for Miramax Bill Block will also serve as producer.
In a collaboration with Universal and Blumhouse, Miramax also released the Halloween reboot starring Jamie Lee Curtis, which went on to become the highest-grossing film in the franchise generating $255.4 million globally. Two sequels are slated for a 2020 and 2021 release date.
