STX Films is beginning to make a name for themselves as creators of original animated films. Earlier this year, they released Uglydolls based on the the hit toy line as their first animated feature film. Uglydolls isn’t their only toy-based film, as Playmobil will also be receiving an animated hybrid film from STX this year.
Originally produced by Open Road films for its U.S. release, the film was initially targeting a January 18th, 2019 release before being delayed a few more times. The film was on track for an August 30th 2019 release but now U.S. audiences will have to wait a bit longer.
Playmobil: The Movie has now been delayed to December 6th, 2019 for its United States release. However, the film will still be released on August 7th, 2019 in the European market due to the fact the film was distributed by Pathé and StudioCanal. This decision was made for STX due to avoid competition with Sony’s upcoming animated sequel, Angry Birds 2. However, Playmobil might have an arguably more difficult time being released in December as not only is it coming out before major holiday releases, but Frozen 2 will be released just a couple of weeks prior. Only time will tell on whether or not Playmobil‘s feature film will be profitable in the U.S. considering the delays and competition it has.
Playmobil: The Movie is set for release December 6th, 2019.
