Kristin Scott Thomas is joining the cast of Ben Wheatley’s Netflix adaptation of thriller, Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier. Thomas will be featured alongside Armie Hammer and Lily James. The story centers on a woman (James) who, upon arriving to her husband’s (Hammer) estate, finds herself living in his previous wife’s, Rebecca’s, shadow. This is exacerbated by her husband’s obsession with his deceased wife. Mrs. Danvers (Thomas) is the antagonist in the plot who is constantly clashing with the new woman of the house. The story is narrated from the new wife’s perspective. The movie comes after the 1940’s film adaptation of the novel directed by Alfred Hitchcock and which starred Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.
Thomas will be starring in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s comedy, Fleabag, during its second season. Thomas has also won a BAFTA for Four Weddings and a Funeral and received an Oscars nomination for The English Patient, a film that won nine out of the twelve Oscars it was nominated for.
Shooting for Rebecca will begin this summer in the U.K. and France. The screenplay is written by Jane Goldman who was also a writer for the Kingsman franchise. This news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
