Initially, The Hollywood Reporter announced that the working title for the next installment of the Terminator franchise is Terminator Dark Fate. James Cameron revealed the title in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment. Although Cameron isn’t behind the camera, he is acting as an executive producer for the film.
Tim Miller, who directed the massive hit Deadpool, is going to helm the film. Additionally, he is co-writing the script with five other writers. The four other screenwriters are David Ellison who produced Annihilation, Star Trek Beyond, World War Z; Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Emerald City); David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice); Billy Ray (Overload, The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips); and Justin Rhodes, who will be writing the upcoming Green Lantern Corps and RoboCop Returns.
The next Terminator film will also see the return of fan-favorite Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the iconic Terminator. Cameron revealed a lot of information about the film, discussing how Hamilton’s character has grown over the years and stating events have “hardened her even more, but in a way that made her much stronger. … Maybe less likable, but stronger. And ultimately, she becomes a really important character in passing the baton to the new characters that come in. It’s a very female-centric film, which I’m glad Tim embraced those themes.”
Although many of the past Terminator films received less than stellar reception, the return of Linda Hamilton and an even darker plot can get the series back on track.
