Although Brie Larson was announced to the star in Charlie Kaufman’s new film I’m Thinking Of Ending Things just this week, Variety revealed that Jesse Plemons will star alongside her. Plemons, who starred in Game Night, Hostiles, Black Mass and the disturbed captain and co-worker in Black Mirror’s USS Callister, will play against Larson as the titular boyfriend Jake in the film.
For those of you who don’t know, Kaufman’s latest film is an adaption of Iain Reid’s novel that was written in 2016. The main plot is centered around Jake, boyfriend to the main character, who remains nameless throughout the entire novel, driving to meet up with his parents. But when an accidental detour happens that leaves the girlfriend stranded, a mix of psychological horror and tension proceed. Although fans of the book may worry that the novel may not be adapted properly in a feature film due the entire novel taking place inside the girlfriend’s head, Kaufman has no shortage of creativity when it comes to mind bending ideas.
The majority of his movies are able to represent thoughts and ideas in incredibly creative ways. Brilliant films such as Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and Synecdoche, New York are all prime examples of this. Knowing how many brilliant and classic films Kaufman has created over the span of his career, the thought of him tackling a psychological thriller is exciting to say the least.
