According to an exclusive by Deadline, the upcoming film distributed by Mazur/Kaplan Company and Echo Lake Entertainment, All the Bright Places has added Justice Smith to their cast alongside the previously cast Elle Fanning. Officially set to helm the drama is director Brett Haley.
Based on Jennifer Niven’s 2015 young adult novel, the plot follows Violet Markey (Fanning) and Theodore Finch (Smith). Although both characters hold dark scars and pain from their past, their blossoming relationship with one another brings light and joy back into their lives. The novel was well received for its ability to break down the stigma behind mental illness and for showing how love and acceptance can impact someone’s life so intensely for the better.
Liz Hannah (The Post) is penning the script alongside Niven, and the film is set to begin production this fall.
Before Haley was attached to the piece, director Miguel Arteta was set to cover the film, and production was meant to begin much earlier.
Names of producers for the project include Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan (Mazur/Kaplan Company), Doug Mankoff , Andy Spaulding, Brittany Kahan, and Fanning.
Smith’s well-known credits include Paper Towns and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Haley can be recognized for his work on Hearts Beat Loud and The Hero, and Fanning has most recently worked on pieces including Mary Shelley and the upcoming I Think We’re Alone Now.
