The latest trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody is here and it is sure to make you scream “Galileo!” The trailer, which details the career of famed Queens singer Freddy Mercury, briefly touches on the high and low moments of his life. Not to mention it showcases a “best hits” list of the band’s most iconic songs.
Throughout the trailer, we are transported between two eras: Mercury’s early days with Queen, and the height of the band’s rockstar popularity. The film’s tone and iconography feel right at home with the 1970s and all the performances, especially Rami Malek as Mercury, feel spot on. The band’s unique approach to music is highlighted through clips of them conceptualizing and recording songs, including the titular “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Yet the trailer also examines intimate aspects of Mercury’s life, most notably his romantic interests. This includes both his girlfriend Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton), as well as a couple unnamed male partners near the end. Furthermore, while the film doesn’t mention Mercury’s AIDS diagnosis by name, there is a moment where he questions how much time he actually has left in the world. Given the film’s synopsis, it’s likely that this aspect of his life will play a major role in the narrative.
Alongside Malek and Boynton, Bohemian Raphsody stars Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Gwilym Lee and Mike Meyers. The film is currently set for a November 2 theatrical release.
