Young adult genre stars Shailene Woodley (Divergent series) and Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games series) will face the horrors of the ocean in the survivor horror-thriller by Baltasar Kormákur’s (Everest), which is titled Adrift. Based on true events, the story follows experienced sailors Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) as they sail from Hawaii to San Diego in 1983 only to be met by the catastrophic Hurricane Raymond only a few weeks into their journey.
In addition to Everest, Kormakákur also wrote and directed the Icelandic film The Deep and seems to specialize in the natural disaster flick. In Adrift, Oldham is left with the daunting task of getting her and her fiancé to safety after he is left badly injured when their boat capsizes. In our current era that’s encouraging strong female characters, Woodley’s Oldham seems to hold a lot of agency, driving the narrative in the newly-released footage.
