According to the Hollywood Reporter, MarVista has recently gotten the rights to The Year of Spectacular Men, a project helmed by director Lea Thompson, who describes the movie as an “authentic millennial woman’s story.” Thompson has brought in her daughters, Zoey and Madelyn Deutch, to play main roles in in the romantic comedy.
The film features a musical score and screenplay by Madelyn. Art will imitate life, as Zoey (Why Him?) and Madelyn (Outcast), sisters offscreen, will play siblings. The movie will follow Madelyn throughout a post-university dating spree as Zoey helps her through it all. Thompson will also act in the film, which she describes as “a joyous passion project for [her] and [her] whole family.”
The Year of Spectacular Men is expected to be released in June.
