Get Out surprised audiences and critics alike when it was released on February 24th. Get Out has now beaten the record for being the highest-grossing film domestically for a feature debut that is based on an original screenplay, which was written by Jordan Peele. Best known for his comedy sketch Key and Peele and as a cast member for MADtv, his directorial debut with Get Out introduced us to a clever premise, memorable characters, and surprising moments of comedy. Scoring a 99% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film received rave reviews from critics who praised the film for it’s writing, originality, and Peele’s directing.

The story follows a young interracial couple (Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams) who visits the parent’s home of the girlfriend where strange things occur. It’s scary, tense, and surprisingly funny. Get Out has been called “A Modern Horror Classic,” by Scott Mendelson of Forbes Magazine and has received “Universal Acclaim” by film critics.

This is the first film to become the highest-grossing movie domestically for a debut feature since The Blair Witch Project that released almost 20 years ago in 1999. Made on a budget of $4.5 Million, Get Out has grossed a whopping $252 Million in sales — that’s 56 times its budget. A potential sequel has been discussed by Peele. Congratulations to Peele for breaking records for his feature debut.
