The Merc with the Mouth is returning to cinemas and today brought some casting news for Deadpool 2 as it inches closer to production. Deadline was the first to report that Jack Kesy, likely best known for playing the goth vampire Gabriel Bollivar in the FX series The Strain, has been brought aboard to portray one of the film’s villains. Kesy would square off again a returning Ryan Reynolds, who is headlining the second chapter in the series adapted from the pages of Marvel Comics.
While Fox appears to be mum, at least now, on who exactly Kesy will be portraying, signals may be pointing that the actor may be playing a character named Black Tom. In Marvel lore, that character – an enemy of the X-Men – is an Irish mutant who has the capabilities to manipulate and project energy through plant life. This is all speculative for the time being.
The main Big Bad of Deadpool 2 will be Cable, to be played by the already announced Josh Brolin. Another new addition to the Deadpool roster is that of Domino, to be played by rising actress Zazie Beetz (Atlanta). All three will join returning actors Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus) and Leslie Uggams (Blind Al). David Leitch (John Wick) is taking over directing duties this go around with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning as writers; Drew Goddard (The Martian) also has a credit, having penned additional material for the film.
Aside from The Strain, audiences will soon be able to see Kesy in this week’s comedy Baywatch, in which he has a supporting role. He will soon be seen in Death Wish, from director Eli Roth starring Bruce Willis and Horse Soldiers, an upcoming war drama starring Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon.
Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
