Benedict Cumberbatch may become attached attached to Fox Searchlight Pictures’ new priority project – an adaptation by David Bar Katz of the Mark Seal novel The Man in the Rockefeller Suit, according to Deadline.
The novel, and film, tell the true story of a conman named Christian Karl Gerharsreiter who successfully made everyone on Wall Street, and his own wife, believe that he was a member of the notorious Rockefeller family. Yet, like most carefully crafted schemes, the illusion can only exist for so long before his past catches up with him and he finds that the important things in life might just slip away with the illusion.
The film has yet to secure a director, although Donald De Line is set to produce. Once a director is found the film is said to be jumping right into production. Pablo Trapero (The Clan), who had been previously attached to the film, is no longer involved.
Cumberbatch, who earned an Oscar nomination for his leading turn in the 2014 bio The Imitation Game, last appeared on screen in Marvel’s hit Doctor Strange. The in-demand actor stars as Thomas Edison in the historical period piece The Current War, due in theaters this winter. Cumberbatch is currently reprising his Dr. Stephen Strange role for the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War, which is filming now.
We will stay tuned to the latest on The Man in the Rockefeller Suit.
