Mahershala Ali, who has been receiving great praise as of late for his work in Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, is in talks to join the star-studded Triple Frontier, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tom Hardy (The Revenant) and Channing Tatum (The Hateful Eight) are already attached to the film which has been in the works since 2009. A Most Violent Year‘s J.C. Chandor is directing based on a script by Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty).

The title Triple Frontier refers to the border crossings of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, where our action-adventure will take place. Based on Boal’s previous politically and culturally charged work, the fact that he is also executive producing the film, and Chandor’s experience with intense story-telling, the film is shaping up in an exciting way.

Ali’s previous credits include appearances on Netflix’s House of Cards and Luke Cage, as well as a role in the highest grossing Oscar-nominee this year, Hidden Figures. Ali has already won a Screen Actor’s Guild Award and Independent Spirit Award for his piece in Moonlight‘s acting ensemble. He is currently nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for the same role. Ali is now filming Alita: Battle Angel.
