Oscar winner and future Captain Marvel Brie Larson is wasting little time with newfound capital in Hollywood. After taking the awards circuit by storm on the heels of her breakthrough performance in last year’s indie hit Room, Larson not only has a bunch of intriguing acting projects in the pipeline but is taking the leap behind-the-camera as well. Original comedy Unicorn Store was previously announced as her feature directorial debut (she previously directed two short films) and now, as principle photography is ready to start, has formed an impressive ensemble cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained), Joan Cusack (The End of the Tour) and Bradley Whitford (Other People).
Larson will wear multiple hats on the film – along with directing, she will also produce and star in the movie. Scripted by Samantha McIntyre (FX’s Married), Unicorn Store centers around a young woman named Kit who after moving back into her parent’s house receives a cryptic invitation to open up a shop, which test her ideas of adulthood in the process. Hercules Film Fund is financing the title with Rhea Films producing.
The project will include a reunion for Larson and Jackson, who recently worked together on the highly anticipated Kong: Skull Island, which hits theaters next year; Jackson can currently be seen on screen in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Cusack, an Emmy winner for the Showtime series Shameless, appears in the 2015 indies Welcome to Me and The End of the Tour and appears set to (vocally) return as Jessie in Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 4. Whitford, an Emmy winner for Transparent, was last seen on screen in the indie dramedy Other People.
We shall stay tuned to the latest on Unicorn Store.
