Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne opened last weekend as one of the most anticipated summer films, and to put it simply, it did not disappoint. The fifth entry of the Bourne series was an international hit, cashing in on over $50 million in the foreign box office. Stateside, the film opened well to a $59 million head start, the second best domestic bow for the series, following the $69 million debut for The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Ultimatum ultimately finished with $227 million domestic tally and over $400 million internationally.
Audiences around the world were excited to see Matt Damon in another intense action movie, and that shows in countries like South Korea, and The United Kingdom where Jason Bourne opened with over ten million dollars. The current foreign box office doesn’t even include China, Egypt, Argentina, or India where the movie hasn’t released yet. So on top of the overwhelming reception, Jason Bourne is far from finished.
While Jason Bourne is far from the biggest hit of the summer, far behind Finding Dory, it still achieves the position as most successful film in the series yet. This just goes to show you that people love a good, high stake action film.
